The Department of Buildings recently issued three Buildings Bulletins relevant to our industry. The first, Buildings Bulletin bb_2017-009, supersedes bb_2012-009 and clarifies the requirements for sprinkler and standpipe systems in existing buildings undergoing alteration, including compartmentation requirements and FDNY notifications. The second, Buildings Bulletin bb_2017-017, explains the reporting and extension application process to comply with the sprinkler requirements under Local Law 26 of 2004. The third bulletin, Buildings Bulletin bb_2018-001clarifies the water supply requirements for building standpipe system zones serving floors higher than 300 feet above the lowest level of Fire Department vehicle access.
